Day 5 November 15 – Jerash, Cana, Nazareth

This morning you will journey to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Stroll through the oval piazza and wander along colonnaded streets etched by the wheels of ancient chariots. Stand in the grand theatre where an onstage whisper can be heard in the top row. Cross into Israel from Jordan. Travel to Nazareth and begin your visits with a stop in Cana, the site of Christ’s first miracle (John 2) before stopping in Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home (Matthew 2:23).  Enjoy dinner and overnight in Nazareth. (B,D)

Day 6 November 16 – Galilee Sightseeing

Enjoy a scenic drive to Capernaum, center of Jesus’ ministry in the Galilee (Matt.4:13, 23). On the Mount of Beatitudes, contemplate the text of the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus preached there (Matt. 5-7). Visit the Church of the Fish and the Loaves in Tabgha, the traditional location of the feeding of the 5,000 (Luke 9:10-17). As you pray in the Chapel of the Primacy, remember how Peter professed his devotion to the risen Christ three times (John 21). In Magdala, once home to Mary Magdalene, visit a recently discovered first-century synagogue. Check into your Taybeh hotel for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 7 November 17 - Taybeh, Bethany

After breakfast, explore Taybeh with its rich Christian roots. Visit the House of Parables located in a small stone home and designed to rediscover Jesus' parables. Stop by the Church of St. George which dates back to Byzantine times. Enjoy a visit at the Taybeh School and meet with some of the local students. Lunch will be provided at the famous Taybeh brewery. Travel to Bethany to the Church built over Lazarus’ Tomb. Time permitting, climb down the long staircase into the tomb itself. Check into your Bethlehem hotel for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 8 November 18 - Bethlehem, Jericho

In Bethlehem, visit the cave revered as Jesus’ birthplace and see the Church of the Nativity constructed over the site (Matthew 1:18 -25). Gaze out over Shepherds’ Field before returning to Jerusalem. Travel to Jericho (the oldest city in the world) and visit the ruins of the ancient city conquered by Joshua (Joshua 6:1, 2 & 20). In the distance, you can see the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus (Matthew 4:1-11). (B,D)

Day 9 November 19 – Jerusalem

Stand on the Mount of Olives and enjoy a remarkable view of the Golden City of Jerusalem. Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven from this place (Acts 1:9-12). Walk to the Garden of Gethsemane and pray beneath the ancient olive trees (Matthew 26:36-44). On Mount Zion, visit the Upper Room, revered as the site of the Last Supper (Mark 14:12-26) and St. Peter in Gallicantu, the home of the High Priest Caiaphas, where Jesus was held after His arrest (Matthew 26:57).
